With all of these services, you will receive both “marked” and “clean” copies of your edited text, allowing you to benefit from your editor’s professional expertise while still retaining control over the final version of your work. You will also receive a brief report detailing the work that has been done, and making some observations on your writing and recommendations for further improvement.
PROOFREADING. At this lightest level of editing, your manuscript will be checked for errors of spelling, punctuation, and grammar, along with simple typos that may have crept into your text. The goal is to remove errors of language from your manuscript.
COPYEDITING. At this moderate level of editing, you manuscript will be proofread for errors of spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and your editor will go on to adjust the sentence structure, word choice, concision, and fluidity of the text. The goal is to polish your language to its best form without altering the substance of your manuscript.
DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING. At this heaviest level of editing, your manuscript will be proofread and copyedited (as described above), and then your editor will go on to make adjustments to the structure and content of your work, even re-writing sections if necessary. The goal is to make substantive improvements to your work while still retaining your thought and your voice. PLEASE NOTE that developmental editing is not available for dissertations, theses, or other academic papers that will be submitted for grades.
ESL EDITING. If English is not your first language, you’ve come to the right place. EME boasts some of the most highly-qualified ESL editors available on the Web!
